Winter Quarter has finally rolled in and what better way to spend it than learning linux!? SWIFT’s first meeting of S.L.U.G., the SWIFT Linux User Group, was an awesome event to come in, meet some new faces, and learn some new tips and tricks for how to deal with the struggle of using linux for the first time.

Hosted by our wonderful guest, Mitchell, The Event kicked off by first learning how to use a Virtual Machine and installing Ubuntu. Once the VM’s started churning, the group leaped into their first session by learning the concept behind why you should use linux followed up by some simple commands.

Once they understood the basics, they delved further by quickly receiving a crash course on how to install applications using a terminal. Quickly, they learned how to setup a website using Jekyll, created a quick media server with Plex, and finished the night off with last minute questions and some delicious pizza!
